Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior APIM Engineer/Lead to support critical API management, integration, and platform engineering initiatives for our client. This role will work closely with the Lead Architect, taking ownership of engineering execution and platform delivery to free her to focus on higher‑level architectural strategy and design. The ideal candidate brings deep experience with API management platforms, integration patterns, and enterprise‑scale API governance.

This is a full‑time opportunity based in Columbus, OH with a requirement of being onsite five days per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of enterprise API management solutions
• Support the Lead Architect by driving hands‑on engineering, platform configuration, and integration work
• Build, secure, and optimize APIs, policies, and gateways within the client’s APIM ecosystem
• Collaborate with architecture, development, security, and operations teams to ensure scalable and compliant API solutions
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex API, integration, and platform issues across environments
• Implement API governance standards, best practices, and lifecycle management processes
• Contribute to modernization and integration initiatives across cloud and on‑prem platforms
• Participate in code reviews, design sessions, and continuous improvement efforts
• Provide subject matter expertise to internal and client teams, reducing single‑threaded dependencies

Required Qualifications

• Extensive hands‑on experience with API Management platforms (Azure APIM, Apigee, Kong, Mulesoft, or similar)
• Strong understanding of API design, REST standards, security protocols (OAuth, JWT, mTLS), and integration patterns
• Proven experience building and managing API gateways, policies, and developer portals
• Background supporting enterprise‑scale API ecosystems and distributed systems
• Strong troubleshooting skills across API, networking, and integration layers
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, highly collaborative environment
• Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and technical leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Azure APIM specifically
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and hybrid integration architectures
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automation for API deployments
• Background working with architects on large‑scale modernization or transformation initiatives
• Experience with microservices, containers, and service mesh technologies
